Meet Clara Furio Novejarque

Clara Furió Novejarque did her Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Electronics and Automation Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain). She then earned a Master's in Automation and Industrial Computing at the same university, while developing scheduling techniques for real-time systems in her master's thesis. After that, she started working in Jorge Bondia's research group, who has been working on Diabetes Technology research since 2004. Clara was awarded a grant by the Spanish Government that enabled her to complete her PhD in January 2024, under the supervision of Prof. Jorge Bondia and Prof. José Luis Díez. In her thesis, she worked on physiological modelling of glucagon and pramlintide, contributing to improving the simulation of their effects for the development of multi-hormonal artificial pancreas systems. She also has international experience, reflected by a research stay during her PhD at Denmark's Technical University (DTU), which has resulted in a fruitful ongoing collaboration with DTU and the Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen.

Clara was recently awarded a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Global Fellowship and will carry out a two-year project in collaboration between the University of Bern, with Prof. José García Tirado, and the UPV, with Prof. Jorge Bondia. The project aims to develop a type 1 diabetes simulator that includes the effect of GLP-1 receptor agonists.
