Meet Clara Escorihuela Altaba

Clara is a Ph.D. student in the PrecisionLab at the Bern University Hospital’s Department of Diabetes, Endocrinology, Nutritional Medicine, and Metabolism (UDEM), where she aims to design systems to improve glucose control for people with diabetes. Her research combines mathematical physiological models with artificial intelligence to develop innovative solutions to help individuals manage their conditions more effectively.

Before joining UDEM, she obtained a Medical Engineering MSc with a focus on Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH, Stockholm) and a Biomedical Engineering BSc from the University of Barcelona (UB). Besides, she gained valuable research and industry experience in biomedical signal processing, medical data analysis, and the application of machine and deep learning algorithms in the healthcare domain while joining diverse research groups including The Biorobotics Lab at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) thanks to the Balsells Fellowship, the Getinge Biomedical Company, and the Artificial Intelligence of Medical Systems Lab at the Oregon Health Science University (OHSU).

Outside of her academic pursuits, Clara enjoys dancing salsa, playing the violin, and singing in choirs.
Her vision? Creative mindset as a lifestyle!
