Sex and Gender in Metabolic Health

Sex (biological attributes) and Gender (sociocultural factors) have a joint and interacting influence on metabolic health. In this field, we are exploring how sex-related physiology and gender dimensions impact on various aspects of metabolism, including body composition, energy and nutrient metabolism as well as lifestyle behavior (e.g. dietary habits and physical activity patterns). We further assess how sex and gender-related aspects (both, on patient and provider side) affect prevention, screening and management of metabolic disorders. Understanding these differences is crucial for developing personalized medical treatments and interventions aimed at improving metabolic health for all individuals. In doing so, we address the inclusion of sex and gender aspects in the delivery of personalized prevention and care, including the development and deployment of AI-powered digital technologies.
