Diabetes

Diabetes is one of the most common metabolic diseases worldwide. The main feature of diabetes is the elevation of blood sugar concentrations, triggered by insufficient effects and/or secretion of insulin. Insulin is a hormone that transports blood sugar into body cells. The mechanisms that lead to diabetes are complex and numerous forms of the disease exist. The goal of our research is to better understand the mechanisms of diabetes, to enable early diagnosis and to discover new treatment strategies. Our research therefore seeks to ultimately reduce the burden of disease caused by diabetes in daily life.
